Barcelona Complete Gabriel Jesus Signing as Brazilian Leaves Arsenal

Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has completed his move from Arsenal to Barcelona, signing a three-year contract with the Spanish champions until June 30, 2029.

Barcelona officially confirmed the transfer on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with Arsenal for the 29-year-old striker.

The clubs did not announce the financial terms, although reports put the deal at around €10 million (£8.6 million), with additional variables reported by Spanish media.

Jesus travelled to Barcelona on Monday, underwent his medical and watched his new team beat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at Camp Nou before completing the formalities of his transfer.

The move brings an end to his four-year spell at Arsenal, where he made 123 appearances, scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists. He joined the Gunners from Manchester City in 2022 after a successful six-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

At Manchester City, Jesus made 236 appearances, scoring 95 goals and contributing 45 assists. He won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields during his time under Pep Guardiola.

His Arsenal career, however, was disrupted by injuries, most notably an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2025 that kept him out until December.

Although he returned to fitness and helped Arsenal win the 2025/26 Premier League title, his opportunities became increasingly limited. He made 27 appearances last season, with reports noting that Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres had moved ahead of him in the attacking pecking order.

Barcelona moved for Jesus after failing to secure Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid. The Catalan club had identified the Argentine as a preferred attacking target, but Atlético were unwilling to negotiate his transfer to a domestic rival.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said he was pleased with the signing and believes Jesus’ playing style suits his team.

“I really love him, I like his style to play football, it fits with our style,” Flick said. “I think he can help us a lot in the games.”

Jesus gives Flick another experienced option in attack following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. The Brazilian’s ability to operate centrally or in wider attacking positions also provides tactical flexibility.
