World Bank Appoints Aissatou Diallo As Country Manager For Sierra Leone

The World Bank Group has announced the appointment of Aissatou Diallo as its new Country Manager for Sierra Leone, a role in which she will lead the institution’s strategic engagement with the Government of Sierra Leone and other key stakeholders while overseeing the implementation of its development portfolio in the country.

Diallo, a Guinean national, brings nearly three decades of experience in development finance, including more than 20 years with the World Bank Group since joining the institution in 2002. Her appointment comes as the World Bank continues to support Sierra Leone’s efforts to promote inclusive economic growth, strengthen human capital, build resilience, and expand opportunities for job creation and private sector investment.

Before taking up her new assignment in Sierra Leone, Diallo served as the World Bank Group’s Resident Representative for Gabon for nearly four years. She also held the position of Resident Representative for Equatorial Guinea between October 2022 and June 2025. During her career, she has occupied several operational and leadership roles, gaining extensive experience in country leadership, portfolio management, policy dialogue, fiduciary oversight, partnership development, and work in fragile and conflict-affected environments across Africa and other regions.

Speaking on her appointment, Diallo expressed her commitment to strengthening the World Bank Group’s partnership with Sierra Leone.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the World Bank Group’s Country Manager for Sierra Leone and look forward to deepening our engagement in the country,” she said.

“Throughout my career, I have witnessed the extraordinary resilience, ingenuity, and determination of communities to overcome development challenges. I look forward to working closely with the Government, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and citizens across the country to advance opportunities that create jobs, strengthen human capital, build resilience, and improve lives for all Sierra Leoneans.”

The World Bank Group remains one of Sierra Leone’s key development partners, supporting investments and policy reforms in sectors including human capital development, agriculture, energy, water resources, social protection, governance, digital transformation, and private sector development.

Based in Freetown, Diallo will lead the World Bank Group’s strategic dialogue and implementation of its Country Partnership Framework, overseeing a development portfolio valued at nearly $1.2 billion.
