Chelsea FC Women have confirmed they will play all of their home matches at Stamford Bridge from the start of next season, bringing an end to their nine-year stay at Kingsmeadow.

The move represents a significant step in the clubโ€™s development, with Chelsea Women transitioning from the 4,850-capacity Kingsmeadowโ€”where attendances have consistently sold outโ€”to the 41,000-seat Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea FC.

As reported by BBC Sport on Wednesday, Head coach, Sonia Bompastor, said the team is ready to embrace the next phase of its growth, having already played at Stamford Bridge for selected fixtures and all UEFA Womenโ€™s Champions League matches.

โ€œThis is an exciting opportunity for us to keep growing, to perform at the highest level and to create a special atmosphere in a stadium we all love,โ€ Bompastor said.

The transition has long been part of the clubโ€™s strategic vision under CEO Aki Mandhar, who has emphasised the ambition to establish Chelsea as a global leader in womenโ€™s football. The decision also follows consultation with supporters and reflects increasing demand for tickets, with Kingsmeadow frequently operating at full capacity.

Chelsea played their final match at Kingsmeadow earlier this month, defeating Tottenham Hotspur Women 2โ€“1 to reach the Womenโ€™s FA Cup semi-finals. The ground will continue to serve as a base for the clubโ€™s academy sides.

The move aligns Chelsea with other Womenโ€™s Super League clubs such as Arsenal Women, Aston Villa Women, and Leicester City Women, who have also shifted matches to their main stadiums in recent seasons.

Despite a dominant, unbeaten domestic treble in the 2024โ€“25 campaign, Chelsea are currently navigating a transitional period and are set to relinquish their long hold on the league title. However, the permanent switch to Stamford Bridge underlines the clubโ€™s long-term commitment to growth, increased visibility, and continued success.

In a message to supporters, the players described leaving Kingsmeadow as โ€œbittersweetโ€ but reaffirmed their ambitions for the future, pledging to build on past achievements and create new history in their new home.
