The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced that all vehicles with worn-out, damaged, defaced or illegible number plates must replace them with the current standard plates issued by the Authority, effective January 2027.
In a public notice released today, the SLRSA stated that the move forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen vehicle identification, enhance security and ensure uniformity of number plates across the country.
“Effective January 2027, all vehicles with worn-out, damaged, defaced, or illegible number plates will be required to replace them with the current standard number plates issued by the SLRSA,” the notice reads.
The Authority has strongly advised motorists to obtain replacement plates only through officially authorised SLRSA channels. It warned against using unauthorised sources.
The SLRSA expressed appreciation for the cooperation of the public as it continues to improve road safety, vehicle identification and security nationwide.
Motorists are encouraged to check the condition of their number plates and prepare to comply with the new requirement ahead of the January 2027 deadline.
