Parliament Orders Immediate Release of WASSCE Results Without Clear Evidence of Malpractice

Parliament has ordered the immediate release of all withheld WASSCE results where there is no clear evidence of examination malpractice, as part of resolutions to address the fate of 47,454 candidates whose results were withheld.

The directive was issued after the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, appeared before the House to answer concerns over the withholding of results in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Presiding over the proceedings, Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, said any result withheld without clear proof of malpractice must be released without delay.

The Speaker also directed the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education to involve Parliament’s Education Committee and civil society organisations in the investigation into the withheld results.

He further ordered the Education Committee to investigate the capacity of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to conduct public examinations, including the Ministry’s role in recruiting examination officers.

Under the resolutions, the Ministry is to provide a clear timeline for concluding the investigation within four working days, while WAEC is expected to submit a post-investigation report explaining why the results were withheld and outlining measures to prevent a recurrence.

Minister Sackey assured Parliament that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and that students and examination officers found culpable would be held accountable.

A total of 47,454 results, comprising 26,735 females and 20,719 males, were withheld by WAEC over suspected malpractice, a sharp rise from 13,237 cases in 2025.
