The results of the Sierra Leone Law School Bar Final Examinations will be published tomorrow, Wednesday 4 November 2026, the Acting Director of the School, Emmanuel Sahr Tondonneh, has confirmed.
Renowned journalist Umaru Fofana reported the confirmation on social media, noting that the announcement ends an unprecedented and agonising wait of more than four months for anxious candidates who sat the professional examinations.
“The Acting Director of the Sierra Leone Law School, Emmanuel Sahr Tondonneh, has confirmed to me that the results of the Bar Final Examinations will be published tomorrow – Wednesday 4 November,” Fofana revealed on a social media post.
The Sierra Leone Law School, established in 1989 under the Council of Legal Education Act, is the country’s sole institution responsible for professional legal training and the final examinations that qualify successful candidates for Call to the Bar as Barristers and Solicitors of the High Court of Sierra Leone. It enrols law graduates holding an honours degree in Law from the University of Sierra Leone or other recognised universities and institutions approved by the Council of Legal Education, typically from institutions such as Fourah Bay College, Njala University, the University of Makeni and others.
The Bar Finals are a rigorous assessment that follows the professional training course. In recent years, several hundred candidates have sat the examinations annually. For example, in one recent sitting, more than 300 candidates passed out of over 500 who took part, while earlier cycles recorded around 200 passes from roughly 370–380 candidates, with others referred or required to repeat. Successful candidates proceed to the formal Call to the Bar ceremony, traditionally presided over by the Chief Justice in his capacity as Chairman of the Council of Legal Education.
The prolonged delay in releasing this year’s results has left many candidates and their families in a state of uncertainty, affecting plans for pupillage, employment and further professional steps. Mr Tondonneh, who also serves as Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone, provided the confirmation that the results will now be made public on Wednesday.
The Law School has undergone leadership transitions in recent months. In June 2026 the Council of Legal Education appointed Supreme Court Justice Fatmata Bintu Alhadi as Acting Director following the end of the previous director’s tenure, with Mr Tondonneh named to support administration during the transitional period. The institution continues to play a central role in producing legal practitioners for the country’s courts, public service and private practice.
Candidates are expected to check official channels of the Sierra Leone Law School and the Council of Legal Education for the detailed results once published.
