JFK Emerges After Contempt Proceedings, Posts Message On Constitutional Supremacy

,

APC lead counsel Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has made a public appearance on social media following Thursday’s dramatic confrontation at the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone, where he was ordered into the dock and subsequently reported to have been detained for contempt of court.

In a Facebook post published shortly after the proceedings, Kamara shared a graphic bearing the message “For Democracy and Constitutional Supremacy.”

The post comes hours after Chief Justice Komba Kamanda directed the senior lawyer to remove his wig and enter the dock following a dispute over an apology demanded by the Court.

According to reports from Thursday’s proceedings, the Court considered Kamara’s initial apology inadequate and required him to apologise and expressly retract a statement made during the previous day’s hearing. Kamara maintained that he had already apologised and retracted the statement, but the Court disagreed.

The disagreement escalated, resulting in contempt proceedings and his reported detention.

Kamara’s latest Facebook post does not expressly state whether he has been granted bail or released under specific conditions. It also does not mention an apology or retraction.

His public appearance, however, comes amid continuing public interest in the unprecedented courtroom confrontation, with supporters describing his position as one in defence of democracy, constitutional supremacy and the rule of law.

The Supreme Court proceedings concern challenges surrounding the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with the substantive constitutional questions still before the Court. The consolidated matters have been adjourned to 13 October 2026.

Spear News will continue to follow developments as the legal dispute unfolds.
