Over 1,000 have been killed and at least 4,400 people missing due to deadly flash floods ravaging Nepal.
Nepalese authorities on Monday said the death toll had crossed 1,000 since last Wednesday, when massive flash floods pounded the Nepal-Tibet border.
Footage of floods tearing buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure in the affected communities continues went viral on social media.
Warning that the death toll and number of missing persons could increase even as rescue efforts continue, Nepalese authorities have commenced mass burials for the bodies of identified victims of the floods.
The number of those missing increased from 4,000 on Monday to over 4,400 on Tuesday as Nepal’s tourism department published a list of the names of 583 foreigners missing after the flood.
The missing persons include at least 900 hydropower workers believed to be trapped inside the Trishuli-3A hydropower site in Rasuwa district and the sites in Chilime.
A breakdown of missing persons from the disastrous floods includes 3,655 Nepalese citizens and 592 foreigners.
Bodies of over 102 Nepali soldiers, police, and customs officers were recovered from the floods.
The devastating flash flood from the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa ravaged riverine areas in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and other communities, causing loss of lives, displacement, and cases of missing persons.
