Leader of the DIB Movement and All People’s Congress (APC) presidential flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, has called on party stakeholders across the Eastern Region to reject politics driven by money and sentiment, urging them instead to build a united and sustainable political movement capable of returning the APC to power in the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Bangura made the appeal during an engagement with Ward and Constituency Chairmen and Chairpersons from Kono, Kailahun and Kenema districts, where he thanked party officials for their dedication during the recently concluded APC internal elections.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bangura described the chairmen as the foundation of the party’s grassroots structure and commended their efforts in strengthening the APC across their respective constituencies.
“Even though we have made successes, you should have one thing in mind,” he said. “Don’t choose due to sentiment or money, but build something that is sustainable for the future of your children.”
He stressed that the decisions made by party stakeholders today would determine not only the future of the APC but also the future of Sierra Leone, urging members to focus on leadership that delivers lasting value rather than short-term political interests.
Dr. Bangura further lamented what he described as the growing disconnect between the state and the country’s young people, noting that rebuilding trust between citizens and government must begin from the grassroots.
Describing the DIB Movement as a departure from conventional politics, Dr. Bangura said his campaign is founded on unity, service and national transformation rather than personal ambition.
“Our campaign is different,” he declared. “Let us work with the APC party for a better change come 2028. My ambition is to let the APC party take power in 2028. And if we really need change, we must unite ourselves.”
He also appealed to supporters to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the campaign season, cautioning them against attacking fellow aspirants.
“Don’t use abusive language against other aspirants. Let us campaign with vision for a better change,” he urged.
Representatives of the three eastern districts thanked Dr. Bangura for what they described as his consistent support for the party and its grassroots structures, assuring him of their continued commitment to both the APC and his presidential aspiration.
Speaking on behalf of the district leadership, one chairman said the support for Dr. Bangura was rooted in conviction rather than financial inducement.
“We will never sell the vote because of money,” he said. “We want to tell you that you are the next president come 2028. We will support you because you have a message on how we all will work to transform this nation.”
The district leaders further disclosed that although several aspirants had allegedly attempted to influence them with money, they remained committed to supporting a candidate they believe possesses the vision and leadership required to transform both the party and the country.
The engagement forms part of the DIB Movement’s broader grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at strengthening the APC’s political base through sustained engagement with ward and constituency leadership across the country.
As preparations for the 2028 elections gather momentum, the Eastern Region engagement underscores the growing importance of grassroots mobilisation in determining the APC’s future direction and highlights increasing calls within the party for unity, discipline and a vision-driven campaign.
