President Bio Outlines Six Proposals To Strengthen National Unity In Sierra Leone

President Julius Maada Bio has outlined six proposals aimed at strengthening national unity, promoting peaceful elections and deepening social cohesion, following his address at the National Unity and Social Cohesion Conference in Freetown.

In a statement published on his official Instagram account, @presidentjuliusmaadabio, on Monday, October 26, 2026, the President said peace and national unity must remain central to Sierra Leone’s future.

Bio said his proposals were designed to strengthen dialogue, educate young people, encourage peaceful electoral processes and build lasting cohesion among citizens.

The President also expressed satisfaction at the participation of his predecessor, former President Ernest Bai Koroma, alongside other national leaders, describing national unity as a shared responsibility that must transcend political differences.

“Our differences should never outweigh our shared responsibility to Sierra Leone,” Bio said in the statement.

The proposals come at a time when political dialogue, public trust and the implementation of national commitments remain important issues in Sierra Leone’s governance landscape.

The conference provided a platform for national leaders and other stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening peaceful coexistence and building a more united country.

However, the lasting impact of the proposals will depend on how they are translated into practical measures, supported by institutions and sustained through cooperation across political divides.
