Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), has emphasized the need for inclusive, ethical, and people-centered technology at the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit held at the White House in Washington, D.C.
Speaking as one of eight distinguished voices on the platform, Dr. Bio addressed the rapid emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting its transformative opportunities as well as the responsibilities and consequences of its integration into societies worldwide. She stated:

“We must ensure that Artificial Intelligence serves humanity, empowers our youth, strengthens education systems, and leaves no one behind. It is essential that women and young people across Africa are not excluded from the opportunities technology offers, and that AI development remains ethical, inclusive, and people-centered.”
The summit, initiated by Her Excellency Melania Trump, convened leaders from over 40 countries and global technology partners to discuss strategies for shaping innovation responsibly. Dr. Bio’s contributions reinforced the critical role Africa must play in the global AI conversation, advocating for collective action to harness technology in ways that protect communities, uphold values, and inspire the next generation.
Her remarks signal a growing commitment by African leaders to ensure that emerging technologies benefit all, particularly those historically marginalized in the digital space.
