Former President Ernest Bai Koroma Expected at ECOWAS Summit Following Dropped Treason Charges

Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is expected to attend this weekend’s ECOWAS Summit following the government’s decision to discontinue all treason-related charges against him.

The development comes after the Attorney General formally withdrew the charges linked to the failed November 2023 coup attempt, effectively ending the criminal case against the former president.

Koroma’s expected attendance at the regional summit is being viewed as a significant moment for national reconciliation and political stability. It will also mark one of his first major public appearances since leaving Sierra Leone for medical treatment in Nigeria.

The ECOWAS Summit will bring together West African leaders to discuss regional security, governance and economic cooperation. Koroma’s presence is expected to underscore ongoing efforts to promote peace, dialogue and unity in Sierra Leone.
