Court of Appeal to Deliver Judgments in 31 Cases in Kenema

The Court of Appeal of Sierra Leone will deliver judgments in 31 appeal cases in Kenema City from Monday 9th November to Friday 13th November, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Judiciary of Sierra Leone on 5th November, 2026, Chief Justice His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda has assigned one Supreme Court Judge and two Court of Appeal Judges to preside over the sittings.

The appeals originate from the Southern and Eastern Regions, covering cases previously heard in Bo, Moyamba, Pujehun, Bonthe, Kenema and Kailahun Districts.

The initiative is part of Chief Justice Kamanda’s broader Access to Justice agenda, which seeks to decentralise judicial services and reduce the financial and transportation burdens faced by litigants who would otherwise have to travel to Freetown to pursue their cases.

During the forthcoming sittings, the assigned Judges will deliver judgments in matters involving murder, chieftaincy, land and property disputes, industrial disputes and other cases before the Court of Appeal. Proceedings will commence at 9:30 a.m. prompt at the Kenema High Court at Reservation, which will serve as venue.

“These Court sittings in Kenema City are a clear demonstration of our commitment to ensuring that justice is not only done, but it is accessible to all across the country,” Chief Justice Kamanda said.

The Judiciary noted that the Court of Appeal first commenced sittings in Kenema on 10th March, 2026, marking a historic development in the country’s judicial system. The continued conduct of appeal proceedings outside Freetown is expected to ease access to appellate justice for litigants in the regions.

The Judiciary has called on all litigants, their lawyers and other relevant stakeholders involved in the 31 appeals to be in court on the aforesaid dates and time.
