PPRC Extends Deadline for Petitions on APC Internal Election Disputes

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has announced an extension for the submission of petitions arising from the internal electoral processes of the All People’s Congress (APC), signaling heightened scrutiny over disputes linked to the party’s recent lower-level elections.

In an official communication dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to the National Secretary General of the APC, the Commission disclosed that it has been receiving multiple petitions challenging decisions made by the Independent Elections Complaint Board (IECB) of the party. The disputes are tied to the APC’s lower-level elections conducted on February 21, 2026.

According to the letter, the Commission will continue to accept petitions against the IECB’s decisions until midday on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The extension, it noted, follows the party’s submission of reports and decisions relating to earlier complaints, necessitating further review and additional time for aggrieved parties to file their grievances.

The Commission emphasized that constituencies where ward elections have been formally petitioned will not proceed with the scheduled constituency elections initially fixed for March 28, 2026. This move effectively halts electoral activities in affected areas pending the resolution of disputes, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to due process and internal party democracy.

It further stated that all petitions received by the new deadline will be forwarded to the APC secretariat by the close of business on the same day. These submissions will be accompanied by a schedule of hearings, which are set to commence on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

The directive highlights growing tensions within the APC over the conduct and outcomes of its internal elections, as stakeholders seek redress through formal channels. By intervening, the Commission aims to ensure transparency, fairness, and adherence to established electoral guidelines within political parties.

The letter was signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Lucien H. L. Momoh, and copied to key officials, including the Commission’s chairman, commissioners, and the APC national chairman.
